Do folks roll their eyes at you when you brag
about the two-pound beefsteak tomato you grew one summer? Just like they scoff about the three-foot
catfish you caught? Or the Sasquatch you spotted, but couldn’t get your cameraphone out of your pocket before he got away?
Well, now’s your chance to compete in Sunnyfield’s Great Tomato Search contest and convince all
your non-believing friends that you can grow a ‘Whopper.’ Here’s how the contest works:
First,
you must register to enter the competition.
You register by coming out to
Sunnyfield in person any time after April 1st and before
No purchase is necessary and we cannot
take registrations by mail or phone.
Members of the Sunnyfield staff and their immediate families are not
eligible.
Registered contestants can bring their
entry to Sunnyfield for official weigh-in during regular business hours
beginning
When you bring your entry, it will be
weighed and the weight and date will be recorded. We will take your picture with your
entry. Tomatoes may be of any variety
and will be weighed on a standardized scale without the calyx (the little
“green hat” that attaches the fruit to the vine).
Just to be sure that entries are free from any
“performance-enhancing drugs” or injections that could make a tomato heavier
than Mother Nature intended, we may ask you to eat a slice of your tomato after
the official weigh-in to insure its wholesomeness.
Registered
contestants can submit more than one tomato during the weigh-in period, but
only the heaviest tomato will be eligible for competition.
The
registered contestant who presents the heaviest tomato for weigh-in will be
awarded $500 cash. In case of a tie, the
entry with the earlier weigh-in date will be awarded the prize. Second place prize will be $300 and third
place prize will be $200.

register when you visit Sunnyfield this spring.
